Pikachu, I choose you!
In the eternal words of Captain Falcon… “HYES!” Tickets to the con are on sale now. Our venue and our dates are dialed in, so BUY YOUR TIX! I can’t stress that enough, and there are a few reasons for that. #1, tickets are cheaper if you buy them online or in a store (which, the stores aren’t set up for that yet, but they will be very soon), also, you definitely want to get your tickets now just so you know you’ll be able to make it. The con is July 17th and 18th at Spokane Falls Community College, which is a Saturday/Sunday in the middle of summer, so you should have no problem being there.
I’ll be going around to various stores in town to drop of fliers in the near future, so grab them and hand them out to your friends. Here’s the link to buy your ticket online:http://otakucon.com/prereg.html PLEASE don’t forget about it. I’m going to spam you all on facebook for all eternity if you forget.
In addition, Jen, or as I like to call her, the lovely Miss Yuki Cross, is stressing out about having people in her cosplay fashion show! The link to do that is here:http://www.otakucon.com/cosplaysignup.html You really need to do it, because without people in the show, everything will suck. This is basically a big fundraiser for us so that we can make the con more awesome, so please try your hardest to be there! It is Friday April 23rd at SFCC, and it is a big part of Japan week. Tickets are only $5, and we will be selling Japanese food and candies like Pocky! Also, there will be a massive rave afterwards, for which glowsticks will be available, and I know you all love glowsticks. Plus, to top all of that off, I will be hosting the fashion show as Ash Ketchum. You don’t want to miss that.
If you have any questions, leave a wonderful comment for me please!
Dave

Yes, I love to channel Dinosaur Comics by using the word “perhaps” followed by an exclamation mark. Y’all should read that comic, as it’s quite funny and irreverent. It deals with a great many topics and is told completely by Dinosaurs. Anyway, enough of that. Plots are thickening everywhere! Of course you all know that there is a to be a cosplay fashion show and we seriously need your help! I’m gonna say right now that y’all are lame for not entering our poetry contest, but to be honest, I expected nothing less. This however, is very important. I need as many people to join us as possible. Why? Well this will be a money maker for us, and the more money we make, the more awesome our prizes and events will be, so you’d better be there and tell all of your friends! Japan Week will be advertising this big time too. There will also be Otaku Con merchandise there, so watch out for that awesomeness as most of it will be limited in edition! Oh yeah, there will be a rave afterwards, and… well… we’re selling GLOWSTICKS! You know you want them.
Also, another cool thing is Matt (Otaku Con’s fearless leader) and Jen (some of you may know her as Yuki) both have blogs with which to tell you things that they are working on! For example, Matt has some very exciting news that he has published very recently, so you should go there in order to find out about it. Yuki also has some interesting factoids for your consideration, among them being some more stuff about the Japan Week event, and exciting demonstrations that will be taking place at Otaku Con.
Now you forum goers of mine… Where are you? You should definitely return to the forums and post your hearts out because it’s fun and cool, and if you’re not paying attention you may miss some awesome stuff! For example, in the near future some sign up forms will be hitting the website, and more details will become available. One other thing: it looks like our venue might be SFCC this year! We hope to one day host this con at the convention center, and in the interests of that, there will be a slight price hike in the ticket prices, but it will still be uber-affordable. The only thing going away is the option to buy tickets for a single day. This con will awesomely be held over a full weekend in July, so get ready for that!
Big news actually, our ad-campaign starts soon, so watch out for Otaku Con fliers (read: business card sized fliers) in all of your favorite stores, and don’t forget to hand them out to your friends! The more people that are there, the more awesome our con will be, with better atmosphere and more entertaining panels! BWAHAHAHAAAAA I’m so excited.
Presale tickets (which are cheaper than door tickets) will be going on sale soon at various locations to be determined, as well as being available online.
Hmmm, also, I’m excited because I’m gonna build a computer pretty soon, at a super awesome price. I will show it to you when I am able!

I miss you cupcake.
I don’t know what that title means, but I figured I could put something there and maybe people would want to read all about it. Of course no one reads it anymore, but that’s fine too.
ANYWHO, we’re buckling down people, because it’s crizunch tizime. What do I mean? Read on…
Basically, Matt (our fearless leader) woke up a couple of days ago and thought to himself, “Deadlines!” and then proceeded to enact and enforce them. What that means for me is that I’m now in the throes of attempting to design some awesome flyers that people will look at and be like, “OoooOOoo, what’s this?” and then they will totally come to stuff!
Okay, here’s the deal, during Japan Week we will be having a cosplay fashion show, and we need fashionistas to show up and strut their awesome cosplay stuff. I’ll be there of course, being the MC and also SONIC THE HEDGEHOG! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA! Gosh, what’s wrong with me today? So yeah, that’s going on us. Plus there’s good news on the front of a venue, but I can’t say anything besides that.
So there’s all that.
And it all means that a lot of stuff is getting done before February 20th! So I’ll try to keep you all in the loop, but we’ll need your help, especially with the fashion thing, so get on the forums and let everyone know about and sign up and stuff! Our sign up forms aren’t actually out yet, but you will know the instant that happens.
Also, Mission Goo is yet another side project for me. Basically I’m gonna try to be a techno guy and call myself Mission Goo.
So I’ll totally let you all listen to it when I actually do something with it.
That’s all I got for right now. BAI!

Light...
So yesterday, yesterday being Tuesday the 12th of January, I did something pretty cool. I don’t know if anyone noticed, but a lovely lady by the name of Kathryn left a comment on my last blog post. Basically, Angela of the Comic Book Shop mentioned to her that there was a contest going on in this and the following month, and since Kathryn is the fearless leader of an anime club that meets at the North Spokane Public Library, she thought it would be a fantastic idea for me to stop in say hi to the kids and tell them a little bit about it and how they can enter and stuff. They’re kids, that’s for sure, but they all want to come to the Con and that’s awesome too.
What does that all mean for you? Well don’t just let the little kids win the competition, enter it yourself! Make the competition competitive! Tell your friends and stuff too. All that being said, the club was pretty neat all things considered. Apart from chips and a small selection of soda, there were some Japanese snacks like salted squid and these strange dried bean things. Plus, wasabi covered peas! Of course I was the only one who ate them, but they were oh so good!
The kids watched Death Note dubbed, which was new for me since I’ve only seen it subbed, and also fun to see the way the kids were reacting to the battle between Light and L. It cracked me up to hear one girl say, ‘imagine if a crazy person got the Death Note,’ because as everyone knows, Light is totally not a crazy person!!1!one one one Another interesting thing I noticed is that Kathryn, their fearless librarian leader, is definitely a Light supporter. How can I tell? Well only a Light supporter would say something like, ‘Is it evil or is it justice?’ Of course she can’t support him directly, as telling a bunch of sixth graders that it’s okay to kill bad people is like, the worst idea, evar… Anyway, I also support Light, so I thought it was cool that she had this secret in her head.
So all that being said, they meet the second Tuesday of every month. Next time they’ll be watching the anime of Romeo and Juliet, and also eating pizza! I hear in Japan that sometimes pizza has squid on it. YUM >_<!!!! You should stop in for a visit! But please, don’t eat all the pizza, that would be my job.

GIANT SHURIKEN!
First, why don’t we start off the day with some shameless plugs? Thomas Hammer Coffee, in the Northtown Mall, thank you for being awesome. This is where we ended up having our committee meeting. We basically invaded a corner of the store and they were supa cool to put up with us. Okay, that is out of the way… Wait! Hammer Coffee! Okay, all better…
Anyways, we talked about all kinds of cool stuff at our committee meeting yesterday, most of which is top secret, but we will be keeping the cat as the mascot. However, there will be some cool stuff to come in regards to it, like contests for which you can win PRIZES!
K, so anyway, coming sometime next week is a contest that we’re very excited about, for it is a fundraiser. Basically you write some poetry, pay 3 dollars, submit your poetry, and the winners will be chosen! Then there will be an awards ceremony, perhaps at coffee social? We’re not quite sure yet, but we’ve been talking about it and you’ll know when we do.
Other than that, there’s been a lot of talk about programming for the con, and let me tell you, it will be pretty hard core. First of all, panels… SO MUCH PANELS! (it’s bad grammar I know, but the nerds, they lovez it. XD) A panel is a thing where you sit down and talk about a particular topic with someone who’s an expert on it. I for one will be running a panel on MECHA, so be there or be square. Anime theater will be back, dancing (with better music) will be back… other things, which are awesome, will be top secret! So you have to be there if you want to know what they are.
So anyway, we’re (or at least Sarah and I) will be shooting little webisode things, so watch out for those. They will be sweet. If you have a webisode idea, you should totally tell me about it and maybe we can help you put it together.
Also, before I go, one thing I forgot to mention earlier, obviously watch the website for all the intense details on this upcoming poetry contest, like rules and stuff. Also, one last thing, apart from doing submissions online via email and paypal, we will also be taking submissions at the Comic Book Shop’s two locations in the Northtown Mall (where all the manga is) and at their North Division location, the cross street there being Sinto.. I think it’s near Indiana… Anyway, if you can’t pay online, submit there and stick your three dollars in an envelope! Now get to writing!

Isn't that a sexy microwave?
Sorry Mark Twain. I just love exclamation marks sooooo much! Ahem, anyway, sup y’all? This is Dave, in case you were wondering. You know, Dave, from the stage and running around like a crazy person.
Anyway, this is a blog. I’m here to blog about things, for example, upcoming events, contests, random coolness, and of course, ANIME AND MANGA! Yes I know you’re all rabid for this stuff. So basically, there’s just a few things I wanted to mention.
#1: A blog… we has one. (Forgive me if I channel lolcats… They are teh awesomez!1!!1!one)
#2: If you missed cosplay ice skating, we are ever so sorry. It was a fun time, even if we only had three people cosplaying, one of whom was in gothic lolita, which, while pretty flippin cool, is not exactly cosplaying in the way that we think of. All that being said, thanks for showing up, even if all you did was wear a pink wig in honor of Sakura Haruno.
At the moment we’re looking into more cosplay get togethers, for example bowling, so WATCH THIS SPACE! Also, there are other spaces to watch, such as those on facebook. Other thoughts in the works: maybe video game tournaments, you know, pretty awesome stuff, involving Naruto games for the Wii perhaps? Anyway, just thought I’d stir up some hype for ya.
#3: It’s snowing…
#4: February doth approach, and with it we’ll be having a special contest in honor of love and all things anime. Watch the website for official contest rules and start dates. There will be prizes.
#5: If you are a local business owner, and are, for some odd reason, reading this blog, please consider contacting us about purchasing ad space for a small fee!
#6: I like TECHNO music.
#7: In the comment box, please tell me something you’d like me to talk about on this blog. If ya don’t I will for sure make something up.
#8: Good thing I’m a spelling ninja, otherwise there’d be like four million mistakes in this thing….
And finally, shameless plugs. Comic Book Shop, Uncles Games… I LOVE YOU! Everyone should shop there.
