I think it was grate ^-^ Every one was very friendly and let me take there pics for my blog which was most appreciated. The Improve panel room thing was VERY funny I loved it. And to Ed and America (don’t know your real names), you two did a really good job you where funny and you kept every one as clean as you could which I really appreciated. The venders where grate (I spent a ton of money…) The cosplay chess was a little unorganized but one it got going was fun to watch it made me want to participate next year. And over all I had a grate time and can’t wait for next year!

Before I go into detail, I just wanted to say that this year was a huge improvement from last year. I really enjoyed this year a lot more than last year. You guys had an official flyer/handbook this time rather than just a packet of stuff printed on computer paper and stapled together. You guys managed to get quite a few sponsors, vendors, and even a voice actor! Good job on keeping everything legal where the anime was concerned. I understand that SFCC was one of the best places for your budget. Not every con can start out at a huge convention center like Sakura Con. Even Sakura con was in a hotel for when it started out for a few years.

However, SFCC did seem like a damper where food is concerned. One could have either pizza, pocky, or maid cafe food which wasn't exactly the cheapest. (BUT OH MAN THE FOOD WAS REALLY DELICIOUS!) I was really happy to have the comic book shop there as a vendor because they had great drink choices. (Aloe <3) Good job on the security as well, guys.

Saturday

Moving the time slot for the chess game wasn't vocalized as well as it should of been. I understand that things happened. However, a lot of people were disappointed about not hearing about it. People went home when all they heard was that it was moved to Sunday at three but they weren't told about a pre-meeting on Saturday. I almost missed it myself. Good job with seeing through to the end with the chess though. I know that we will have a lot more time for planning and preparation for next year. I do have a friend who helped her uncle for Sakura con's chess games. She lives here in town so maybe we can get some pointers from her. I think you met her, Matt. Remember Megan from Spocon from last year?

I really enjoyed the JRock panel as well as Storm in a Teacup. I didn't listen to Storm as much as I would of liked but I did really like them from what I heard. Great job on getting the taiko drummers and kendo. It was really fun to see some of the Japanese culture there.

The cosplay chess being moved was the only thing that disappointed me on Saturday. Now onto Sunday!

Sunday

I was a little sad to not see the comic book shop there on the second day. I spent a lot of money at their booth on drinks alone. I suppose I got spoiled from the day before. The rave was fun however SFCC's speaker system was quite a damper. I was disappointed with people leaving and being really rude over the technical difficulties. Great music mix though, Ceci! The best song was that chaa chaa song. Thank you Travis for having those speakers on hand for the rave.

Suggestions:

  • Better organization.
  • More sleep, committee; I'M LOOKING AT YOU MATT
  • Better incentives for the volunteers. (Sakura con may be able to afford a lot of perks for their staff but I am sure Akicon [Akicon does require their volunteers/staff to pay at a discounted rate, as does Spocon] has something for their volunteers/staff)
  • I am sure we can figure out some more panels. (I am thinking of what I could do for panels for next year myself)
  • Bigger chess board and preparation for the chess
  • More food selection. (Spocon seems to do this pretty well from what I've seen.)
  • More exposure at other cons. (Perhaps a booth at Sakura Con? Akicon? Kumoricon?)
  • More exposure for the convention's forums and site
  • More karaoke songs
  • A show thing of sorts like you guys had for the fashion show rave

This is all that I can think of for right now. I will post again if I can think of any more. I hope this helps.

"Anime trivia is a hard one because it is difficult to find something that is common knowledge to everyone because not everyone has watched the same anime."

I was hoping it would go fairly well, because Anime/Game Trivia Gameshow was my personal panel, not an Otaku Con panel like Cosplay Chess. I was thinking next year I'd branch out and talk to more guys about trivia, and lots of my friends offered to help next year if I decide to do my panel again. <3

Thank you so much! This really means a lot to my Edward and I~! (This is the America that led that panel!) I appreciate your thoughts a lot, and we're already talking about ways to improve our improv for next year. ^___^

BUT back on the topic of OtakuCon Review!

I like the name change a lot! I don't know why people are opposed, but I think it's super cute. ^___^

Also illegal to resell.

Really? I think a lot of clubs as CBC do that, minus the Japanese club because we get out goods somewhere else. I'll have to look into that then.

I have to agree on this one. Not so much the food, but more of the drinks. I don't drink coffee, tea, or soda. This limits me to juice and water pretty much and Coffee and tea were all there was on the menu. Which I told Matt about with the pizza.

If it's not hard then it wouldn't be a game. I really enjoyed it (As the 'leader' of the girls team) and I think the audience did too. Some of them were jumping up and down for Jen to call on them when the people up didn't know. I will agree to add more shonen and other titles in. I really was trying to convince myself I wasn't an super otaku, but after this I found out that I am a huge otaku. (I scorn who ever made that game. I think it was Jen)
Reaction To Itachi:
Me: "I don't think anyone does that to their younger siblings without a good reason."
Brooke: "He is a sadist my dear sister."
Me: "Well then explain this."

Hey, guys. Thank you all for your suggestion. Keep em coming in, we really appreciate it. Today (Sat July, 24th) we are having our post con meeting to discuss the things we think need improvement. This thread will come up in the meeting and we will be sure to discuss a lot of your suggestions as they tend to mirror our own ideas and concerns with the con.

Again, thank you all very much.
