Online registration, new friends and website woes
March 23rd, 2010 Ma7TiMuSHi guys, how are you all doing today?
I’m feeling a little sleepy and groggy this morning, I may make some coffee, or just sit here and watch more Samurai Champloo….it’s a tough decision.
Before I do any of that, I wanted to let you know about some news that has been coming across my desk.
This year we are being hosted by our friends at the SFCC Anime club. They are a very friendly group of people who get together and watch member picked anime at each of their meetings. They seem to be a fairly tight knit group of friends who spend time outside of the club together playing games or visiting Dicks downtown.
I had a chance to come sit in on one of their meetings and tell them a little about the convention and what our goals were. I was overjoyed when I shared with them the need for more help to make OtakuCon over 9000 times better than last year and they were instantly excited. That weekend we even managed to add a couple more faces to our directors roster.
Well, the folks there at SFCC have kindly offered to let us use their facilities on the dates we were hoping for. So now we can officially announce that OtakuCon2010 will be held at Spokane Falls Community College on Saturday July 17th and Sunday July 18th. I hope to see you all there.
This week, OtakuCon 2010 pre-registration went online and is ready to go. I’m very excited about that. This will be the first year that we do online registration. You can head over to the registration page and get registered today. Just FYI pre-register and you will get your name printed on your badge rather than written on with sharpie, plus it’s $5 cheaper than if you wait to pay at the door.
Prices for registration are as follows
- For the pre-registering crowd: $15 online or at one of our sponsors locations (which will be announced when they are available)
- If you wait to pay at the door: $20
- Volunteers: $10 (we will start taking applications for volunteers soon.)
If you didn’t know, I am also the only acting webmaster for OtakuCon.com. I’m not really a web designer, so things have been going really slowly as I’m learning all the things I need to know in order to build a decent website. I have a couple things that I am going to be working on in the next couple weeks that you can look forward to seeing.
- A scrolling banner with recent news and updates that will replace the area that says “Spokane’s premiere anime convention”
- Drop down menus for all the menu bar items
- An “about us” section including information on our con with bios and pictures from all of our Directors
- Volunteer application
- guests section with our confirmed guests
- Exhibitors sign up and an area to list all the vendors/artists that have registered for tables
- AMV rules and submission up
Speaking of AMVs, I had an idea for a competition the other day…. a Re-Dub contest!! Take a clip or clips from your favorite anime/game and re-dub what they are saying. I’ll get rules and submission guidelines up sometime in the near future.
In addition to all this, I’ve been studying what it will take to become a non-profit organization. We aren’t doing this so that we can get rich or make a lot of money off of it, so I figure that a non-profit is probably the best way to go. I’ll have more information on that as I continue in my research and begin the application process.
I’ll keep you updated.
and remember to check the forums for more updates and to share you ideas.
